Criteria for Virtual Fibering

چکیده
We prove that an irreducible 3-manifold whose fundamental group satisfies a certain group-theoretic property called RFRS is virtually fibered. As a corollary, we show that 3-dimensional reflection orbifolds and arithmetic hyperbolic orbifolds defined by a quadratic form virtually fiber. These include the Seifert Weber dodecahedral space and the Bianchi groups. Moreover, we show that a taut sutured compression body has a finite-sheeted cover with a depth one taut-oriented foliation.

Virtual Betti numbers and virtual symplecticity of 4-dimensional mapping tori
In this note, we compute the virtual first Betti numbers of 4-manifolds fibering over S1 with prime fiber. As an application, we show that if such a manifold is symplectic with nonpositive Kodaira dimension, then the fiber itself is a sphere or torus bundle over S1. In a different direction, we prove that if the 3-dimensional fiber of such a 4-manifold is virtually fibered then the 4-manifold i...
متن کاملThe Virtual Haken Conjecture
We prove that cubulated hyperbolic groups are virtually special. The proof relies on results of Haglund and Wise which also imply that they are linear groups, and quasi-convex subgroups are separable. A consequence is that closed hyperbolic 3-manifolds have finite-sheeted Haken covers, which resolves the virtual Haken question of Waldhausen and Thurston’s virtual fibering question. An appendix ...
متن کاملThe fibering map approach to a quasilinear degenerate p(x)-Laplacian equation
By considering a degenerate $p(x)-$Laplacian equation, a generalized compact embedding in weighted variable exponent Sobolev space is presented. Multiplicity of positive solutions are discussed by applying fibering map approach for the corresponding Nehari manifold.

X.S. Lin’s original definition of twisted Alexander knot polynomial is generalized for arbitrary finitely presented groups. J. Cha’s fibering obstruction theorem is generalized. The group of a nontrivial virtual knot shown by L. Kauffman to have trivial Jones polynomial is seen also to have a faithful representation that yields a trivial twisted Alexander polynomial.
متن کاملOn Compact Fiberings of the Plane
In a recent paper [2], Montgomery and Samelson have raised the question whether there exists, for some n, a compact fibering of Euclidean w-space, and have given some reasons for thinking that no such fibering is possible. The purpose of this note is to provide further evidence for this belief by proving that a t least there is no compact fibering of the plane. The theorem I shall prove is in f...
